If you think I’m kidding…I’m not.  You may just have missed the news this week, or missed seeing the signs hanging on the displays at Toys R Us…but there is a serious campaign to encourage those of us who love to save a buck to do a little (ar all) of our Christmas shopping early this year.

Quite honestly, I don’t know how I feel about it.  I mean, I love to save money but who’s to say that what you decide to purchase right now as a gift is what you would have chosen as the Christmas season approaches?  Typically I start my shopping in October and finish 95% of my purchases before December 1st.   Then I just roam the malls at my leisure enjoying the decorations, smells and music….and watching all of the other shoppers going nuts.

Maybe it’s time for a change in my shopping practices?

Maybe it’s time to at least take a look at what’s offered during this Christmas In July promotion?

Here’s the skinny on what’s going on…

The main players:
Target, Toys R Us and Sears

What’s being offered:
Target is holding a one-day online sale starting Friday (July 23) on 500 items from clothing to Blu-ray disc players.  The 24-hour sale begins at 3 a.m. Friday Eastern Time and will not be advertised in Target stores. Very similar to the Black Friday sales we all rush to after Thanksgiving.  Deals include $300 off a 47-inch 1080p HDTV and a BluRay player for $100.  Click here for Target’s “Back in Black” link.

SEARS is welcoming you to take a waltz down Christmas Lane for 20% savings on all ornaments. Free Shipping is also offered for Christmas Lane purchases over $39.
Kmart is also promoting their Christmas Lane.  Plus get 30 days Free SHipping with no minimum purchase!
SEARS & Kmart also have a Christmas Club Card that allows you to earn a 3% bonus! (Add value to your card until Nov. 15th and they’ll give you a 3% reward) Click Here for details.

Toys R Us is also offering “FREE SHIPPING on everything” (standard shipping only, up to $25) .  And although is says “on everything” the offer excludes video game consoles/handhelds, software, accessories & (duh) Buyer Protection Plan.  There is a great savings of 50% off many family board games…why not get them away from that TV and go back to the basics?  (& save $$$)  PLUS additional markdown July 23 and 24 and a special ‘Cyber Monday’ event on July 26.

The summer should be about relaxing and enjoying life. Not rushing to stores like on Black Friday! Thanks for the tip though, might check somethings out, a penny saved is a penny earned

I have to agree with both of your statements. So far, as of this minute, I have not given in to the Christmas In July push…but I am curious…perhaps later on tonight.
