Today is a BIG day…my little Grace is now a full fledged kindergartner.

You would think that the morning would have been filled with squeals of excitement and a rush to get dressed and hit that playground early.

No.
Not in our home.
Oh no, we had an issue with the fact that breakfast had to be eaten.

“I don’t want breakfast.  My tummy is full already!!!”
“How can your tummy be full when you haven’t eaten anything yet?”
“It is Momma…My tummy is FULL!”

In the end there was a half eaten bagel and an empty glass of chocolate milk on the table.  That whole glass of chocolate milk somehow made it into her “full” tummy.  I knew it would…it always does.

After breakfast it was the rush to get teeth brushed, hair brushed and clothes on.  If she could, Grace would have dressed herself from head to toe in green…she settled for a green Tinkerbell shirt instead.  And of course her new Sketchers’ Twinkle Toe shoes.  (which didn’t match at all, but she didn’t care…they were Twinkle Toes)

We pulled up to the school to find the kindergarten play yard FULL of parents and their new little “big kids”.  Some were running everywhere just playing up a storm…others were clinging to their mom or dad’s legs.  You could tell immediately who wasn’t so sure about this whole kindergarten idea.

When the bell rang, the teachers came out of their classrooms and greeted everyone.  Kiddles lined up against the wall…I had to laugh because it was such a funny picture for my mind.  Like a row of little convicts waiting to be I.D.’d.  The little girl right behind Grace didn’t want to let go of her mom’s fingers and finally got the courage when the teacher told them all to waive bye-bye to everyone.

Parents were excited…some already had the waterworks going…which caused some of the kids to get a few tears too.  I’m so glad that I went thru that last year when she went to preschool…I couldn’t have handled it today. My little love is growing up…way too fast for me.

I was so proud of her though…she was walking in with immense confidence.  So very contrary to the little guy who refused to go thru the door.  Poor little guy just kept turning around to his dad…grabbing his arms, pant legs…throwing himself down to the ground when his dad grabbed the loop of the backpack to “guide” him in.  Grace was yelling, “Bye Momma! Bye!”, waiving like crazy…and then started jumping.  I thought the excitement was going to send her thru the roof of the building.

My immediate regret in not having the video camera there with me, but I’ll grab it for pick-up later.

So did you survive that first day? Nick, my oldest, just finished kindergarten this year. It was definitely an emotional first day for me, but I get used to it pretty quick. We still have a month and change until school starts up again but I’m already ready I tell ya!

I made it thru just fine…got all of the tears out when she started preschool last year. So this was a breeze for me. Now when my baby Rose starts next year, that’s going to really test my resolve. I’m just going to walk her in holding a box of tissue.
