With Spring here and Summer right around the corner, it’s time to get into the “smoothie mode”! My family L-O-V-E-S smoothies. And during the Summer, we really go through a lot of juice and frozen fruit. And the smoothie tends to become breakfast quite a bit too.
I don’t like all of those “juice drinks” that are packed full of extra sugar… so I tend to grab Tree Top orJuicey Juice’s 100% juices. Add to that some ice, low fat yogurt and a few frozen fruits…we’re ready to go!
I start by filling my blender with 2 cups of crushed ice. (add a little less if you like your smoothies to not be as thick)
Then add 2 cups of juice. In this case, it’s the Tree Top Apple Fruit Punch.
A few spoonfuls of low fat vanilla yogurt.
Next, the fruit!!! One cup each of blueberries and red raspberries go right on top. The frozen work the best, they keep the drink nice and frosty, but fresh are very welcome. (just add a little more ice before blending)
I put the lid on top (a very important step), hit frappe on the blender and let it go! Depending on your blender, you may have to stop the blender a couple times just to stir the ingredients so they will blend smoothly.
Grab your kid’s favorite glasses…fill them up…and fill one up for yourself!
To make it completely perfect…garnish with a sprig of mint just before serving. There’s just something that that little sprig does that makes it feel just a little bit extra special.
Just look at these happy little faces as they start their day. Try as I may, I just can’t get them to stop biting their straws though. :)
